A Community Celebration!

Earth Day at Aveson Schools in Alta Dena, CA

Aveson  is a small, public, student-centered learning community in Alta Dena, CA with a focus on personalized learning, social leadership and healthy living. Aveson Educational Cooperative is comprised of two charter schools: Aveson School of Leaders and Aveson Global Leadership Academy. Aveson is an excellent example of school-wide, community-wide sustainability efforts and creating not just a green campus, but a green culture.

Eugene Cooke

Resident papa of m.a.m.a. e a r t h, Eugene Cooke had the pleasure of kicking off Aveson’s first annual Earth Day community celebration. This was Eugene’s second visit to Aveson presenting his unique vision of the value of urban gardening and the power, health and vitality of growing food close to home to a group of enthusiastic staff, parents and kids.  Kelly Forden, a parent at Aveson wrote, “I am so proud to be part of this school and awed to watch a team of people get together and present and share with the community.  There were great presenters, really informative booths, tasty treats and activities.”

Tina Thornton, who helped to coordinate the event wrote, “Moms are extraordinary creatures. When one  has an idea and has the divine grace to connect with other moms who find it inspiring in some way, these moms are unstoppable. I am so proud of our community and so blessed to be connected to you all in this way. I am thrilled too, that Aveson was able to reflect a great change that is occurring all over our world at this time. It, too, will not be stopped.”

We want to send sincere gratitude to schools like Aveson that are resonating with m.a.m.a. e a r t h’s work and inviting us to come back to share our vision.  We also send thanks to our Rockethub fuelers.  Your donations this past April help us continue to take part in events such as this.  Grow Where You Are!
