The m.a.m.a. e a r t h family is so excited for one of our biggest supporters, Quddus Phillippe as he kicks off his new show Duets on ABC. This one-of-a-kind singing competition takes some of our favorite singers out from behind the judges’ table and onto the stage. Superstars Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke individually set out on a journey across America looking for undiscovered talent worthy to be their protégés. Ultimately, each Superstar will choose two singers to be their duet partners. Together, the Superstar and their protégé will take the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, only one duet will be at the top of the charts and the winning amateur will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records. TV personality Quddus, best known from his days as the host of MTV’s Total Request Live, hosts this groundbreaking new singing series.
Quddus has been one of m.a.m.a. earth’s biggest supporters since 2010 when he helped us present our celebrity charity event at Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica, CA that brought together music, live performance and a ‘love bazaar’ featuring local artisans. The event, which featured performances from R & B legend El Debarge, a singer on the brink of international superstardom – Bruno Mars, and hitmakers Far East Movement. The event raised money for women and babies in earthquake-ravaged Jacmel, Haiti and proceeds helped pay for a water filtration system for a geodesic birthing clinic. Quddus’ father is Haitian and the cause was very close to his heart.
