The Road Less Traveled

The Road Less Traveled is a shop in Santa Ana, California that provides natural, local, handmade and fair trade items as well as a community education space.  The shop started as the brainchild of Delilah Snell, who wanted to see something different in her Orange County community.  In August of 2005, she rented a 500-sq. ft. retail shop in an unknown spot on North Main Street where she saw the need for eco/non-toxic/sustainable goods with $5,000 of savings from working at a coffee shop called The Gypsy Den. Over the next 6 years, her store became a hub for creative thinkers, community members and artists to find something literally off-the-beaten-path. In that time, Road Less Traveled has won awards and media attention for eco-education and creativity, and Delilah lectures across the state on food sustainability, creative business development, DIY and green consumerism.

In February 2012, Road Less Traveled moved to downtown Santa Ana to collaborate with Grand Central Art Center in a new home in the heart of the Artist’s Village. RLT has also partnered with friend and fellow green business Belly Sprout offering eco-beauty and resources for empowered birth and natural parenting.

Delilah has been a longtime friend and supporter of m.a.m.a. e a r t h.  We presented one of our first Grow Where You Are! lectures there nearly four years ago and more than 50 people showed up to hear about growing food and the power of urban gardening.  We knew then that we were onto something and Delilah has been a constant inspiration and example of someone who is ‘walking the talk’.  Delilah’s other projects include Backyard in a Jar, Craftcation Conference and the upcoming Patchwork Festival.

Patchwork is an Indie Arts & Crafts Festival that started in the back parking lot of Road Less Traved with 20 vendors. The goal was to showcase handmade/local goods and have them available to the public in a one-day shopping event. In 2012, Patchwork has grown into 3 locations (Santa Ana, Long Beach and Culver City) with over 100 vendors in each location.

The next Patchwork Festival takes place this Sunday in Culver City at the historic Helms Bakery District.  This celebration of all things locally handmade will feature clothing, kids’ items, edibles, food, music and more! Kick off your summer with a little DIY inspiration and pick up a unique gift for that special someone.

The event is FREE so tell a friend and show up if you’re in LA this weekend!

8711 Washington Blvd., Culver City @Helms Bakery – the interior parking garage – stay cool.
