Election day, November 6, 2012 is fast approaching, and Californians have the opportunity to pass this very important law. Proposition 37 would require food sold in supermarkets to be labeled if it contains genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. Studies have shown links between GMOs and cancer, allergies, and organ toxicity. Monsanto and other GMO and pesticide firms have contributed nearly $35 million to oppose Proposition 37. All of Europe, Russia, India, Japan and China require labeling of genetically engineered food, and so should we. We are what we eat, and we have the right to know what we are eating!

There is no debate that the toxins in our world are the contributing cause to ever growing rates of cancer to humans. If the money spent on research creating new drugs to fight cancer went to research to prevent cancer and promote health in humans, rather then see cancer increase, I am convinced we would see cancer rates drop drastically. To turn this trend around we must, as a nation, wake up and realize we have been sold a bill of goods. Bio-tech companies, big Pharma, chemical companies, Big Oil , and others have so much at stake in this story. Now, more then ever, we have to begin to take a stand and Prop 37 is a start. People have a fundamental right to know what is in the food they put in their body. With what we know about GMO food that they tried to hide from us, we must say, “Enough!” Don’t believe the ads against Prop 37. The FDA didn’t listen to its own scientists when warned of the dangers of GMO food. These included: new toxins in the environment, new diseases, new allergies in children, digestive disorders in infants and others. For the infants and children’s sake we have to pass this proposition.
