We get by with a little help from our friends.

m.a.m.a. earth is a small collective of people working together to promote art, music and nature as a way to make a change for the better. Since 2007, we’ve offered people of all ages simple and fun ways to get creative, get inspired and give to others. The team works from places like Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Sao Paulo, the UK and Germany. Our classes, retreats, events, the work of the global chapters – we make it all happen with the support of a fantastic team of individuals and some amazing partners and sponsors.

Simply put, we get by with a little help from our friends.

Companies like Fender have donated ukuleles for school music programs. VANS has supported m.a.m.a. earth from the beginning, helping us to take care of our volunteers at our concerts and events. The Grammys has given autographed film posters for charity auctions. Companies, big and small, who take corporate social responsibility seriously, help bring m.a.m.a. earth’s vision to life!

In December, m.a.m.a. earth saw a Facebook post by one of our brothers, musician Mark De Clive-Lowe, announcing that he’d be sharing the stage at Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival with legends like soul singer Roy Ayers, Robert Glasper Experiment, Omar, Jose Gonzalez and Osunlade – easily one of the most gifted producers of soul/funk-influenced deep house. Now these aren’t household names, but m.a.m.a. knows a thing or two about music and our interest was piqued. Where was this festival? In LA? No…the Oriental Mindoro Philippines. Hmm…well, maybe being there wasn’t in the cards. Or maybe it was.

With a little bit of research, we learned that Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival (this is its 4th year) champions soulful music, environmental stewardship and celebrates heritage, cultural roots and art. All the things m.a.m.a. earth believes in and supports in thought and deed.

m.a.m.a. earth founder, Jaime Kailani, visits an orphanage with her family during a visit to the Philippines in 2011.

m.a.m.a. earth has strong ties to the Philippines. Founder, Jaime Kailani Bayot’s family comes from the Philippines. She traveled there in 2011 with her entire family to see her brother Bruno Mars perform in the city of Cebu. She visited an orphanage with her mom and dad and uncles, delivered toys and gifts and sang songs with the children and was so moved.  m.a.m.a. earth has a chapter there that partners with Bruno Mars Philippines that orchestrates good deeds helping children in need. In December, m.a.m.a. earth partnered with This Time Foundation and Apl.de.ap Foundation to present a Walk/Run event at the Santa Monica Pier to raise money for Typhoon Relief in the Philippines. Sponsoring the Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival seemed like a natural thing to do. Traveling to the Philippines would be even better – to connect with amazing charities there, to strengthen ties with the country and an opportunity to learn from the team producing the Malasimbo Festival. But we’d need funding to make the trip.  Enter The Story Company.

Ride Along, starring Kevin Hart, has spent 3 weeks at #1!

You might not hear the words  “The Story Company” very often but we’ll bet you’ve heard of the movies that Tim Story directs. Films like Think Like A Man, and Ride Along – the film starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube that just spent it’s 3rd week at Number 1 in the theaters. The Story Company has been part of the m.a.m.a. earth family for years, attending and participating in our events and encouraging m.a.m.a. earth’s endeavors but they have truly given us a gift with a generous donation to make the Philippines trip a reality. m.a.m.a. earth is now able to sponsor the festival, travel to Manila, Puerto Galera and also see Cebu. While we’re there, we’ll connect with Liter of Light, a global open source movement with the aim to provide an ecologically and economically sustainable source of light to underprivileged households that do not have access to electricity or are unable to afford it.

The Story Company is helping to root m.a.m.a. earth’s vision, giving it wind, water and sun and helping us to be a part of something great. We are filled with gratitude!

Malasimbo, here we come!
