This m.a.m.a. is making a change for the better

Kailani Bayot, mother of two and creator of  m.a.m.a. e a r t h, is bringing together art, music and the star power of her Grammy-award winning brother Bruno Mars to make a difference locally and globally.

m.a.m.a. e a r t h is an organization of loving mamas & papas that is focused on building community with “green carpet” charity events and nature-based education for youth and adults. It was founded by Kailani Bayot, who is based in Los Angeles,  with the  intention to create exciting events that promote incredible music and different art forms in a fun and uplifting environment in order to raise money for causes that are close to her heart.  To date, m.a.m.a. e a r t h has raised money for Nourish The Children, Volunteers of America, Shine On Sierra Leone and Yayasan Bumi Sehat (who provide pre/post natal and gentle birthing support in Bali and Haiti), Ashinaga in Japan, and many more.

“m.a.m.a. e a r t h all started with a bead,” says Kailani. “I work with crystals and precious stones as a hobby making jewelry and I came across this bead called Malachite-Azurite. It’s such a beautiful stone. It looked so much like the earth, blue and green. I looked it up in my crystal dictionary and found it is a stone that promotes healing and aids in transformation.  The m.a.m.a.  e a r t h wish bracelet was born! You tie it on, make a wish and when it falls off, your wish goes out into the universe. I thought kids selling these as their school fundraiser would be better than selling chocolate and the best thing about it – they gain awareness about the world around them.  Proceeds from the bracelets raise money for their school and a charity of their choice. I have realized that everyone wants to help and give. It feels good to know you can make a difference. I think, why not facilitate these fun events where everyone benefits? It’s fun for a good cause while raising awareness about the issues going on in our community and around the world.”

m.a.m.a. e a r t h is building a reputation for featuring both up and coming talent (like chart toppers Far East Movement) along with established legends in the music industry (like R & B crooner El Debarge and in April, Andy Vargas, lead singer of Santana).  Leading up to Bruno Mars’ meteoric rise to international success, he has performed at each and every m.a.m.a. e a r t h event thus far.  When Bruno is touring the world, he’s contributed with video messages and has donated autographed Fender guitars for auction.

m.a.m.a. e a r t h’s previous events have brought out the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and many other famous faces. “I think celebrities have a big influence on the world so when they do good things, it inspires us to do the same. Having celebrities at our events,” says Kailani, “helps to draw the media, which also helps to raise awareness on the issues we are all facing.”

Kailani and her brother Bruno take pride in the Hawaiian islands that nurtured their growth and when asked what is most important to them, they’ll both say family.  In between helping her boys with homework and getting ready for soccer practice, she muses on all of her big plans for m.a.m.a. e a r t h’s future, and then says with a laugh, “We are mamas ourselves so we kinda have to pace ourselves.”
