We The Party!

We The Party’s leading man, Mandela Van Peebles rocks the m.a.m.a. e a r t h “Love Grows” T-shirt!

From m.a.m.a. e a r t h founder, Jaime Kailani Bayot:

As a mother of two boys (ages 6 & 13),  I often look back at my childhood with questions…
What did I do when there was no Twitter or Facebook or even the Internet? How did I communicate with my friends before I had a ‘smart phone’?  What the heck did I do with all my time?

Well, I played outside, climbed trees, went to the beach or hung out at a neighbor’s house. I wrote letters, recorded radio shows with my cassette deck, I figured out ways to make the spiral phone cord reach as far as possible to a corner where no one could hear me. Ah, the good old days. There is no way to deny that times have changed.  I see my boys and to be honest, it scares me.  We are all exposed to so much.  At times, it’s a sensory overload.
New film “We The Party” opens April 6th.

Technology and social media are everywhere and there is no way around it for me and my boys unless I pack our bags and move to a jungle far away with no wifi.  Pop culture and technology reach so many and that’s why we at m.a.m.a. earth use it to ” make a change for the better”.

Recently my sons Marley and Jaimeson had the chance to act in a movie called WE THE PARTY, directed by Mario Van Peebles. The new film shows teenagers as they are, not as adults would like them to be. It’s a revealing look at modern day youth culture set amidst the latest trends in music, dance and fashion. WE THE PARTY is a colorful, cutting-edge comedy set in an ethnically diverse Los Angeles high school during America’s years with the first black president.

The film focuses on five friends as they deal with romance, money, prom, college, sex, bullies, Facebook, fitting in, standing out, and finding themselves. It reminds me of classic teen comedies like The Breakfast Club and House Party but with an attitude and style all its own. WE THE PARTY captures the hopes, confusion, challenges and dreams of today’s teenagers as they plunge headlong into an uncertain future.
