Title: Local Food & Film for Thought
Location: Center for Living Peace, Irvine, CA
Link out: Click here
Description: Join us at Center for Living Peace to celebrate Earth Day by watching Southern California’s first screening of “The Greenhorns”, (Film Running Time: 50 minutes) a documentary film that explores the lives of America’s young farming community– its spirit, practices, and needs. These stories and voices will embolden and inspire you to support the local food movement in ways big and small. A wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day!
The film screening (sponsored by 4m.erdd.us) will be followed by a talk by urban farmer, Eugene Cooke, who has been helping people to grow food at homes, schools, churches, community centers, urban farms and more here in the United States, Jamaica, Kenya and Tanzania. He is the author of “Grow Where You Are: An Introduction to Urban Agriculture for the Conscious Urban Dweller.” Eugene’s talks are brimming with helpful information about how to garden but more importantly– he reminds us why we tend the garden: to be grounded, to have a sense of wonder about the world around us, to build community. Planting as a service.
Delicious food and drinks will be provided by participating restaurants of The Positive Plate Orange County, a Southern California based sustainability program, helping restaurants, food trucks, and caterers implement individualized and comprehensive sustainability plans to connect individual and community health.
Don’t miss this very special gathering in celebration of Earth Day and all things local & sustainable!
