In 2009, Jaime Kailani Bayot launched her organization, m.a.m.a. earth, with a red carpet charity event in Santa Monica, California. She had been working as a booking manager for her little brother, Bruno, who had just moved out to LA from Hawaii to get his music career started. Jaime Kailani was developing great relationships with clubs and bars around LA and she had an idea to use these relationships to do good for others. m.a.m.a. earth would host its first charity show that would raise money for a worthy cause and the people coming to the show would experience how good it felt to do something for someone else. And it would be fun!
Dancers like Kimberly Miguel Mullen and Jaya Vaswani performed, Capoeira Brasil Maestre Boneco showed up to get the party started. Leonardo DiCaprio was seen smiling and talking at the bar with Nancy Reilly from Nourish the Children. So many amazing musicians played that night including Carmit Bachar, one of the original Pussycat Dolls, who sang a duet of Bob Marley’s Turn Your Lights Down Low with a new singer named Bruno Mars.
Who could have ever imagined that 4 years later, Bruno Mars would be an international MEGA-star? Jaime Kailani would be getting ready to premiere a new TV show with her three sisters, The Lylas? And that m.a.m.a. earth would not only still be presenting some of the best musicians around, but also producing art shows, after-school arts programs and spreading Jaime Kailani’s initial intention of serving others AROUND THE WORLD?!?
Today marks Bruno’s 28th birthday! He’s a long way from Keeaumoku Street and the entire m.a.m.a. earth family is so very proud of him. In honor of his birthday, m.a.m.a. earth Indonesia, headed up by Elsa “Cha Cha” Tesalonika, celebrated Bruno’s birthday by raising money for Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia, a foundation that helps kids with cancer. Cha Cha, m.a.m.a. earth Indonesia and Bruno Mars Indonesia sold a Tshirt & Hand Sanitizer pack on an online shop, and shipped the product from Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. They raised Rp 2,000,000 (USD $173.76) and the money was donated to the cancer foundation to use for food, books and toys for the kids.
