ALTER Students
Ghost, Narcissist and C-Lou participate in class discussion.

We are so proud of the 9-12th graders participating in this year’s installment of ALTER, an after-school arts and writing program at Crenshaw High School in South Los Angeles, created by Lead art teacher of Crenshaw’s Visual and Performing Arts magnet, Ronda Brown. The kids have an opportunity to attend ALTER twice a week for modules on writing, recording, producing and rehearsing original material. ALTER sessions also include open studio time in vocal booths previously donated by Snoop Dogg and producers 1500ornothin.

Access to arts education in public schools is limited and under-funded and m.a.m.a. earth is humbled to contribute to developing Arts Programs that are vital to the success of all youth. Through Visual and Creative Language Arts, ALTER cultivates additional skill, focus, self empowerment and opportunity to underserved and low income students. ALTER emphasizes a curriculum that focuses on social development by  increasing self-esteem, self-confidence and self-respect. Students are gaining essential skills to be competitive artists and communicators in society. m.a.m.a. earth helped to present the program’s 8 week pilot in the Spring of 2014 and the 2014/15 school year. A big thank you goes out to the administration at Crenshaw High School, Los Angeles Unified School District, our talented facilitators and guests of the program.

This Spring, we are so excited to announce a campus beautification project featuring street artist Aise Born and the students of ALTER. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting project!

A heartfelt thank you to Nature Box, Popchips, Aquahydrate and Blick Art Supplies for stepping up to donate snacks, drinks and art supplies to the ALTER program.
